Love Like Lou: A Community Day of Service at North Shore Little League
Today was not about the tragedy that took Louis Erebia from us.
Today was about the incredible life he lived.
Family, friends, church members, former players, coworkers, neighbors, and volunteers gathered at the North Shore Little League fields to honor Louis in a way that reflected who he was. Lou was a husband, father, grandfather, man of faith, coach, protector, helper, and community servant. He was someone who showed up.
For decades, Louis gave his time and heart to North Shore Little League. Even after his own children had grown, he continued serving the kids, families, and community around him. He helped because he cared. He gave because that was who he was.
So the community came together to continue what Lou had done for so many years.
Volunteers cleaned, mowed, leveled, worked on the fields, prepared the park for the next season, and helped care for a place that carried so many memories. Some came with tools. Some came with donations. Some came with prayers. Everyone came with love.
It would have been easy for the day to be centered only on grief, anger, and heartbreak. There is still pain. There is still a fight for justice. The family and community still believe everyone responsible must be held fully accountable.
But on this day, the community made a choice.
That is what made the day so powerful. It was not about forgetting what happened. It was not about stepping away from the fight for justice. It was about making sure Louis's life is remembered for more than the way he was taken.
Louis's legacy is bigger than tragedy.
His legacy lives in his family. It lives in the young people he encouraged. It lives in the fields he helped care for. It lives in the people who knew they could count on him. It lives in every act of service done in his honor.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
That verse became the heart of the day. In the middle of heartbreak, the community chose to do good. People showed up for the Erebia family. They showed up for the kids who will play on those fields. They showed up for the community Louis loved. They showed up for Lou.
To every person who worked, prayed, donated, encouraged the family, shared a memory, or simply stood in support, thank you.
Thank you for honoring Louis.
Thank you for loving the Erebia family.
Thank you for serving alongside us.
Thank you for helping carry forward the legacy of a man who gave so much to others.
The fight for justice continues.
So does Louis's legacy.
